‘Emperor Babar had prohibited cow slaughter’: Justice B Siva Sankara Rao

Hyderabad: Moghal Emperor Babar had prohibited the slaughter of cows as religious sacrifice and directed his son Humayun to follow this example, claimed Justice B Siva Sankara Rao of Hyderabad High Court. He further said that it is said that emperors Akbar, Jahangir and Ahmed Shah also prohibited cow slaughter. He recalled that Maharaja Ranjith Singh had imposed capital punishment for cow slaughter while during the reign of Nawab Hyder Ali of Mysore cow slaughterer’s hands were cut.

The judge further recalled that the National Commission on Cattle headed by Justice GM Lodha had submitted its report in 2003 recommending stringent laws to protect cow and its progeny, in the interest of rural economy.

Justice B Siva Sankara Rao observed that organic farming needs protection of cow progeny.
