Engg grads becoming workers; Education is not Engg & Medicine alone: KCR

Favoring a complete overhaul of technical education, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today expressed dismay at the Engineering education for not catering to the industry needs. “It’s shame that many engineering graduates are roaming on roads as the Engineering education failed to prepare them in a manner that is suitable to clinch a job, fit into a company or a business as quality and standards are not up to the mark. This situation should go and a new one should be in place to ensure that these graduates become employable and get top notch jobs”, he said
Speaking at a high-level review meeting at Secretariat on Wednesday, the Chief Minister felt there is a strong feeling in the society that education means only either Medicine or Engineering. “This is not correct and the Education department should formulate a new policy to focus on other courses, professions that will push them into research, development and others”, he said.
KCR expressed surprise over the engineering graduates, who, with no other go, were becoming, police constables, home guards and workers under EGS scheme, he lamented. Education department should take over IITs to provide better opportunities, he said and directed it to focus on a policy to cater to future needs to ensure jobs. “We need to change our existing Education policy to cater to the industry and companies needs through offering need-based courses that offer jobs and employment”, he added.
