Engineer held for bribe jumps of fifth floor; dies

Nizamabad: An engineer working in Nizamabad Municipal Corporation today committed suicide by jumping off the fifth floor of his apartment after he was allegedly held by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, while accepting bribe a few hours ago, police said.

Ch Venkateswarlu was arrested in the morning by the ACB at his flat here when he was allegedly accepting Rs 20,000 from a contractor for official favours.

According to Subhash Chandra Bose, Inspector of Police Nizamabad town, Venkateswarlu (45) jumped off the fifth floor of the apartment building where he was residing.

“The body has been sent for post-mortem. We have not found any suicide note. As per the preliminary reports, he committed suicide apparently due to mental agony after he was trapped by ACB for allegedly accepting bribe,” the police official told PTI.

The official further said that he resorted to the act when the ACB officials were present in the flat.
