Enrollment of OU Distance Education Center reduced to half – Abolition of Zonal System responsible

Hyderabad: The lethargy of the officials of the Center for Distance Education of Osmania University has become troublesome for the students. These officials are imposing unnecessary conditions on the students who want to seek admissions in the Distance Education Center of Osmania University. After the separation of Telangana State, many steps were taken to facilitate the students but OU officials are functioning in a very lethargic manner. They are canceling the old rules in order to relinquish their duties as a consequence of it the enrollment in the distance education center is getting reduced. This has resulted in the reduction of revenue to the university.

Earlier, many students had the facility of getting themselves enrolled as per the zonal system but after the system was abolished, the students of Telangana are going to other universities.

It may be mentioned that consequent on the establishment on various universities in Telangana State, the number of examination centers has also been reduced. The students of three districts were divided into four zones namely Secunderabad, Charminar, LB Nagar and Kukatpally.

The students used to select the nearest examination center earlier. After the abolition of Zonal System, the candidates of Kukatpally are being allotted to LB Nagar examination center. This is creating inconvenience for the students. This system has been adopted by Telangana State Public Service Commission which has been copied by Osmania University Authorities.

Another reason for the reduction of enrollment in distance education courses is that results are delayed to the extent of 6 months by which many employees are getting deprived of their promotions in their respective departments. Despite several representations made to OU authorities, no action has been taken so far.
