Hyderabad: Speaker of Lok Sabha, Ms. Smitra Mahajan told that due to lack of literacy, women are growing old much before the natural old age. Another reason for it is that parents discontinue the education of their daughters and arrange their marriages. She was addressing the centenary celebrations of Vivek Vardhini Educational Society’s girls high school. She told that if a girl is equipped with education, she has the potential of reforming not only a family but also all sections of the society. She requested the people to equip their daughter with education so that the evils in society could be eradicated. She further told that education is such a wealth which cannot be stolen by any power whereas money can be taken away easily.
She further told that there was a time that it was very difficult for the girls in Maharashtra to get education. Many allegations were leveled against the girls. Keeping these difficulties in mind, Maharathi speaking people sought permission from the late Nizam of Hyderabad to start a girls school and also to protect the girls. In this manner, Vivek Vardhini girls school was established 100 years ago in Hyderabad. Vivek Vardhini Educational Society offers education to the girls at nominal fees. She lamented that earlier educational institutions used to be established with a motive of offering service but now it has become a commercial activity.
She announced a donation of Re. one lakh on her behalf to this institution. She mentioned that the mutual cooperation of Marathi people and the people of Telangana cannot be discontinued by any force.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Bandaru Dattatarya, Union Minister of State for Labour told that Vivek Vardhini Education Society is an old institution. The graduates of this institution have become Doctors, Engineers and occupied many important positions. He stressed the need for the management to pay special attention on the skills development of the girls.
TRS MP, Ms. K. Kavitha expressed her satisfaction on the educational development of this institution. She told that cordial relations between Telangana and Maharashtra exist for many centuries. The Ganga-Jamuna civilization is being promoted in Hyderabad.
Mr. Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Dy. CM of Telangana State paid rich tribute to the contribution made by this institution in the field of education. He said that educating a girl child is equivalent to educating a family. He recalled that Telangana Movement was started from this institution. He promised that this society will be provided with necessary lands and its other problems will be resolved.
Home Minister of Telangana State, Mr. N. Narasimha Reddy, Speaker of Telangana Assembly, Mr. Madhusudhan Chari also spoke on this occasion. Dr. Rama Krishna Satvalekar, President of Vivek Vardhini Educational Society, Dr. Anand Aabkari, General Secretary and Dr. Vishwanath Gogte were other speakers. Dr. Satwalekar felicitated Ms. Sumitra Mahajan, Mr. Dattatarya, Ms. Kavitha, Mr. Mahmood Ali, Mr. Narasimha Reddy, Mr. Madhusudhan Chari and Dr. Chakrapani earlier.
