Ex- DCW chief demands Kejriwal’s resignation over Somnath Bharti issue

New Delhi, Serpt. 10 : Former Delhi Commission for Women ( DCW) chairperson Barkha Shukla Singh on Thursday demanded Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation over former law minister Somnath Bharti’s alleged involvement in a case of domestic violence.

She said all claims made by Kejriwal on women safety have turned out to be hollow.

“I would to like demand Kejriwal ji’s resignation, all his claims of women safety have been proven hollow. Kejriwal ji had oraganised a session on women safety, and this man Somnath Bharti was a speaker in that event. There cannot be anything more shameful than this,” Singh told ANI.

“Truth has won. Lipika came to us later, she had already complained to the CIW cell in 2011. She has been suffering ever since she married Somnath Bharti. She suffered for a long time, but when it became too much, she stepped out in the open against him,” she added.

The Delhi Police on Thursday registered a case against Bharti after he was accused of domestic violence and mental torture by his wife Lipika Mitra.

The case has been registered against Bharti under Sections 307, 323 and 498A of the Indian Penal Code.

Lipika has been married to Bharti since 2010, but has been living separately from him since 2012 along with her two children in a rented accommodation in Dwarka. (ANI)
