Farmers’ suicides: Congress men stage dharnas all over State; warn KCR

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy has alleged that suicides of the farmers in the State were increasing day after day due to criminal neglect and apathy of the TRS government towards farmers.

Participating in dharna at Mahbubnagar on Monday as part of the party’s Statewide protest program in front of the Collectorates against “anti-people policies of the TRS government”, Uttam Kumar lamented that the people were facing severe drought and drinking water scarcity in the State. He also said the China tour of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will not be useful to the State in any manner.

Former Union minister Sudini Jaipal Reddy, former minister DK Aruna, MLAs G Chinna Reddy, Ch Rammohan Reddy, Sampath and Vamshichand Reddy joined the protest held at Telangana Chowrasta. On the occasion, they raised “Save farmers” and Save democracy” slogans.

In the State capital, former minister Danam Nagender has warned the TRS leaders to behave properly else they will have to face troubles after losing power. The Congress leaders organized protest programs across the State in front of the Collectorates protesting against the physical attack on Makthal MLA Ch Rammohan Reddy by Atchampet MLA Guvvala Balaraju, a couple of days ago at Mahbubnagar Zilla Parishad meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Danam alleged that the TRS leaders were harassing the Congress leaders and physically attacked even the Congress MLA when the latter questioned the ZP Chairman. Danam asked whether it was correct on the part of the Chief Minister to visit China at this juncture where stock markets were facing troubles now. The Congress leaders tried lay a siege to the Ranga Reddy district Collectorate protesting against the TRS government’s negligent attitude towards farmers’ problems and attack on Makthal MLA Ch Rammohan Reddy. The police intervened and arrested Congress leaders and workers when they sat across the road bringing vehicular traffic to a grinding halt at Lakdikapul.

LB Nagar former MLA D Sudheer Reddy and others participated in the agitation. Former ministers Ponnala Laxmaiah and P. Sabitha Indra Reddy participated in the program. They alleged that the TRS government has miserably failed to save the agonized farmers. They questioned Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao whether the latter has no time to console the families of the farmers who had committed suicides? They also alleged that the ruling party leaders were indulging in physical attacks on the Opposition parties’ MLAs. They demanded that the government pay ex gratia to the kin of those committed suicides.

In Khammam, TPCC working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and MLA Puvvada Ajay participated in the dharna. Alleging that “anarchic” rule was going on in Telangana State, they warned the Chief Minister of dire consequences if he failed to mend his dictatorial attitude. They also slammed KCR for ignoring the suicides of the farmers.

In Karimnagar, senior Congress leaders T Jeevan Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, Duddilla Sridhar Babu, DCC president Katakam Mrityunjayam participated in the maha dharna at Vemulavada. Speaking on the occasion, they criticized the attitude of KCR towards farmers.

In Medak, Congress activists staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate office. Senior leaders V Hanumanth Rao, Sunitha Laxma Reddy, Jagga Reddy and others joined the protest. The police arrested them and whisked them away to the local police station. However, they were released later.

The Congress leaders in Bellampally in Adilabad district also staged a dharna. (NSS)
