Fee reimbursement scam: Hasvitha Institute chairman arrested

The Keesara police here on Monday arrested one Vasanth Tharun Kumar, Chairman, Hasvitha Institute of Engineering & Technology, Keesara in connection with fee reimbursement scam.

On June 20 this year, one Guguloth Anitha, ST (Lambada) of Jajireddygudem Loyapally village, Nalgonda District lodged a complaint with the Keesara police that she took admission in Hasvitha Institute of Engineering and Technology through web counseling in M.Tech 1st year for 2013-15 academic year. When she went to pay for first semester examination fees, she was demanded to pay Development Fees. She took her original caste and Income certificates and showed them to the college management. Though, she did not study first year and second year, the college management claimed Fees Reimbursement for first year and second year.

The Keesara police registered a case in cr.No.184/2016 under IPC and SC/ST (POA) Act and investigated the case under the supervision of Syed Rafeeq, Asst Commissioner of Police, Alwal Division.

Police said the students, who belong to ST Category have to apply for Post Matric Scholarship and Fee Reimbursement to the District Tribal Welfare Officer, R R Dist through College. The Tribal Welfare Department after scrutiny of document directly send amount of fees reimbursement to the College’s account and Post Matric Scholarship to the account of the candidates towards Mess Charges.

When the complainant went to pay 1st Semester Examination fee, the college Management refused to receive unless she pays Development Fee Rs 5,500. Since it was the last day, the complainant sought time as she has only examination fee but they denied, due to which she could not attend 1st year exams.            Besides, the college management had applied IInd year fee re-imbursement without the concern of the student Gugulothu Anitha by providing Ist year memo marks, affidavit, Aadhar Card and other fictitious documents which were not furnished by the student and were fabricated one and uploaded in the website for sanction of reimbursement of fees to DTWO RR District without taking thumb impression of the candidate and got sanctioned and en-cashed an amount of Rs 57,000 for IInd year.

On knowing the fact, the student questioned the management which remitted the same to DTWO through challan. Thus the management of Haswitha Engineering college intentionally cheated the DTWO by claiming fee reimbursement with fraudulent, forged documents even after knowing that the student belongs to Schedule Tribe. The police requested the students regarding the fraudulent activities and promised to take immediate action. (NSS)
