FICCI organizes ‘Safety Systems Excellence Awards’ for manufacturing

New Delhi : Dr V K Saraswat, Member, NITI Aayog, today presented the fifth FICCI Safety Systems Excellence Awards for Manufacturing, at the conference on ‘Safety for Sustainable Manufacturing Growth’ organized by FICCI here.

The awards are supported by UL Inc. and eight units were given the awards for their good safety systems during the award ceremony by Dr Saraswat. these eight units are Cairn India (Mangala Oil and Gas Mine), Barmer; Grasim Industries (Harihar Unit); Mahindra and Mahindra (Nashik Unit); ITC Ltd (Saharanpur); 3M India Ltd (Ranjangaon Pune); Lanco Tanjore Power (Tamil Nadu); Minda Corportaion (Noida); and Oerlikon Balzers Coatings. Besides, there were eleven certificates of appreciation for the different units (please see the details at the end of this release).

While addressing the delegates and safety professionals gathered from different sectors, Dr Saraswat said “Safety in the unorganized sector remains an area of concern and there is a need to bring in cultural change to ensure best safety systems are adopted.”

He further said that Hazard Engineering can be introduced as the subject in education to ensure that safety practices are given priority in the workplace and to bring in cultural change.

This year, FICCI Safety Systems awards were given in the three categories. Firstly, large category (either turnover or investment, excluding working capital, more than Rs 500 crore), secondly medium category (either turnover or investment, excluding working capital, between Rs 100 crore to Rs 500 crore) and thirdly small category (turnover and investment, excluding working capital, both less than Rs. 100 crore)

The Large and Medium categories are further classified into hazardous and non-hazardous based on the definition given under the Schedule (1) of the Factories Act, 1948. Also, the units are assessed on the basis of occupational health management system as part of evaluation process for awards.

FICCI Safety Systems Excellence Award in Manufacturing is a dedicated award for recognizing best safety and occupation health systems at work place. The Awards are have completed their fifth edition.

The awards are an initiative of FICCI Manufacturing Committee. These awards act as a motivation and a catalyst for adopting best safety practices and systems in the manufacturing sector. Firms and companies that display high safety systems leading to systematic improvement in organization performance are felicitated with these awards.

The conference witnessed presentations on ‘Best Practices by the Awardees’; ‘Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health’; ‘Technical Risk Assessment in Engineering Industry’; ‘Behaviour-Based Safety’; ‘Safety as an Integral part of Zero Effect, Zero Defect (ZED)’ and a panel discussion on Strengthening Safety Systems in Manufacturing.

The inaugural session of the conference was also addressed by M M Singh, Chairman, FICCI Manufacturing Committee and Executive Advisor, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. and Shyam Bang, Co-Chairman, FICCI Manufacturing Committee and Executive Director, Jubilant Life Sciences Ltd. (ANI)
