Fire at ‘Make in India’ event: FIR registered against Wizcraft

Mumbai: The Mumbai Police on Friday registered a case of negligence against Wizcraft International Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, the organisers of the Maharashtra Night, for the massive fire at a ‘Make in India’ event in Mumbai earlier this month.

An FIR was registered at D.B. Marg Police Station here under Section 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter) and Section 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The FIR was registered after studying the report submitted by the Mumbai Fire Department.

The report, which was submitted by the Fire Department to the Maharashtra Government and the Mumbai Police on Wednesday, had blamed the management firm of alleged ‘willful negligence’.

Meanwhile, the Wizcraft International Entertainment has said that all safety precautions were followed in the event.

The Fire Department had cautioned against the use of fireworks near the stage, but still, pyrotechnics and smoke machines were used, the report says.

Wizcraft has been accused of keeping LPG cylinders under the stage to create the effect of Lord Ganesha with flames.

The fire broke out when around 10,000 guests, including Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and other celebrities were present at the city’s famous Girgaum Chowpaty beach. (ANI)
