Forwarding WhatsApp message lands teen in jail

Lucknow: Anuj Kumar Gupta, 18 yr old boy from Varanasi, who runs a utensil shop in Badi Bazar area, was arrested this Friday for forwarding an objectionable message on WhatsApp about Prophet Mohammed. They arrested the boy a day after authorities issued directives for administrators and members of groups on social media platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook.

The police received complaint the Friday night he forwarded the message. “The message was checked and a case was registered against Gupta under IPC section 295A (outraging religious feelings)’’ said Jai Shayam Shukla of Lohta police station.

Gupta was sent to jail after being produced before the Magistrate.

He said that he received that message from Deepak Mishra, probably a Lucknow resident in his statement to the the police.

The Police is now tracking the chain of message from where it was first generated. Action against Mishra will be taken after his number is checked, as reported in Indian Express.
