Four held for killing doctor

New Delhi Four persons were arrested today for their alleged involvement in the murder of a 61-year-old Palam village doctor in his clinic, police said.

Balwant Singh, a general physician, was shot dead on May 13 in his clinic in Palam village, they said.

During investigation, it came to the fore that Singh was in a relationship with a 42-year-old woman and that led to his murder, police said.

Through Singh’s call details it was also known that the woman was once close to another man, Hariom Sharma, with whom her relations had strained, said Surender Kumar, DCP (south west).

Police picked up Sharma and his interrogation led to disclosure that he had conspired for murder of the doctor with the help of a close friend Vikrant who had hired a contract killer and paid him Rs 2 lakh, he said.

Accused Vikrant who was paid an advance of Rs 83,000 by Sharma, had arranged for a contract killer Angad and his associate Sonu who killed the doctor, police said.

While Angad actually shot the doctor, Sonu waited on a motorcycle outside the clinic, said the officer.

Sharma said during interrogation that he was close to the woman since 2007 and his first and second wives had left him because of his intimacy with her. His relations with the woman had strained and both had registered cases against one another, police said.

He was jealous when he got to know about the woman’s closeness with the doctor and planned the murder, they said.

Sharma was arrested after he spilled the beans and also led to the arrest of the remaining three accused, added the officer.
