Four held for selling spurious cotton seed

Rachakonda Police in coordination with Mahbubnagar counterparts have arrested four persons in connection with selling and distribution of spurious cotton seed and cheating the farmers of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharastra States.

Those arrested include one Chinnam Janaki Ram, owner of Gopi Krishna Seeds Boothpur of Mahaboob Nagar Dist and Srusti Seeds of Thorrur Village, Hayath Nagar R.R.Dist.

 

On a tip-off on June 26 with regard to sale of spurious cotton seed to unauthorized persons  at Srusti Seeds, S.S.R Godowns at Thorrur Village, Hayath Nagar, special teams consisting of J. Narender Goud, Inspector of Hayath Nagar, Venkateswarlu, Inspector of SOT L.B. Nagar  along with Agricultural Department Officials raided the said premises, found 1,651 packets of Cotton Seed of Different varieties i.e. Indra BG-II-      960 packets, Bheema 470 Packets, Bheeshma-184 Packets, Balram-37 Packets and found irregularities and illegal business. The police asked the accused to stop the sale of the remaining stock and took seed samples for sending to Lab for examination to know whether the seed is genuine.

 

The special Team alerted Madgula Police and Agricultural Officers. K. Goutham, Agricultural Officer, Madugula along with Local Police visited and caught hold the unauthorized (108)  cotton seed packets and BT-II Cotton Seeds of certified Companies which are placed at unauthorized premises (Without license) i.e. in the house of one Padam Lakshmi, wife of Madhukar. A case in Cr.No. 78/2017 U/s 420, 188 IPC has been registered and later the accused Padam Lakshmi was taken into custody and produced before the Court for Judicial Custody.

On June 27, Special Taskforce Team from Agricultural Department led by N. Kumara Swamy, Dy. Director (Seeds) visited the Srusti Seeds at Thorrur Village again and found irregularities and confirmed themselves that the Management of Srusti Seeds was doing illegal business by selling to unauthorized persons, improper maintenance of records, non-furnishing of records, selling seeds in bulk quantity to individuals against the price fixed by the Government of India.

Based on the complaint , a criminal case vide Cr.No. 501/2017 U/s 420 IPC & Sec. 13(1)(a), 18(1) Seed Control Orders 1983 has been registered at Hayath Nagar PS against Janaki Ram, owner of Srusti Seeds.

A Special Team consisting of Police and Agricultural Officers moved to Boothpur Village of Mahaboob Nagar Dist where the source of Cotton seed business is going on. With the help of Mahaboob Nagar Police under the leadership of Bhaskar Dy. Superintendent of Police, Mahaboob Nagar searched the premises of Gopi Krishna Seeds Company where the team found 1129 packets different varieties of cotton seeds, 2045 kg of foundation and Reminent cotton sees, 1050 kg of Red gram Reminent seeds all worth of Rs. 46,42,422 stock seized and handed over to Local Police. A case U/s 6(A) of Seed Act is being registered by the Agricultural Officials and a criminal case U/s 420 IPC 13(1)(a), 18(1) Seed Control Orders 1983 has been registered.

On Wednesday, the Special Team apprehended three accused responsible for the  offence.

The special team under the supervision of Venkateswara Rao, Dy. Commissioner of Police, L.B.Nagar Zone & V. Ravinder Reddy, Asst. Commissioner of Police, Vanasthalipuram Division had done commendable Job while arresting the accused, who were doing illegal spurious seeds business by cheating the innocent farmers  for years.
