Four killed in road accident in J&K

Bhadarwah/Jammu: Four persons were killed when their car skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge near the Jangalwar area in Doda district this evening.

A car bearing a Jammu and Kashmir number plate was on its way to Thathri from Cheerah village when it skidded off the road while negotiating a sharp curve on a dilapidated road and fell into a 200-feet-deep gorge, SDM Thathri Mohd Anwar Banday said.

Local residents rushed to the spot to rescue the occupants of the car and shifted them to Emergency Hospital, Thathri, where doctors declared three of them as brought dead while another person succumbed to injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Altaf Hussain, Yasir Ahmed and Touqeer Ahmed — all residents of Zanhari Teh village, Thathri, and Rashid Hussain of Rangola Thathri.

Banday said the main reason for the accident “is dilapidated condition of the road, which has further worsened due to continuous rains over the last fortnight”.
