Four students among 7 held for bike stunts, racing on road

Visakhapatnam: Seven youngsters, four of them undergraduate students, were arrested today for bike racing and performing stunts on motorcycles, police said.

A group of eight youngsters preformed dangerous street stunts and illegal drag-racing on the Beach Road near Appughar at about 1.30 AM on March 7 (Maha Shivaratri Day), said DCP (Zone-I) CM Thrivikrama Varma.

Seven of them were arrested on the basis of a video clip which came to light recently, police said.

The accused were identified as Mohd Shariq (21) a third-year B.Tech student of Andhra University, A Santosh Kumar (20) a B.Com second-year student of GVP College, Joseph Jones (19) a BBM second-year student of GVP College, Rushikonda, V Narendra (21), a BSc final-year student of Dr LB College, Md Nafiz Ahamed (23) a welder, N Purushottam Reddy (23), a car driver, and R Satyanarayana (23), who is engaged in false ceiling work, they said.

The bikers, with their dangerous stunts, had caused inconvenience to passers-by and a complaint was lodged by one of them by calling up the police control room. But before the police team could reach the spot, they had left.

The police got a video clip of the stunts and swiftly moved to arrest the youngsters, who have been booked for rash and negligent driving, the DCP said.

Police were looking for one more motor-biker in connection with the case. They have seized the bikes used for stunts and racing.
