Gandhi family ‘above the Constitution’ for Congress: BJP

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday asked the Congress to end its rigid stand in the Parliament over the National Herald case and accused the grand old party of keeping the Gandhi family above the Constitution.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said the Congress should appeal in the higher court if they are not satisfied with the High Court’s decision.

“What is the need of disrupting the Parliament? The House has nothing to do with this case; it’s a court’s decision. Wasting Parliament’s time is not good for democracy. I would request the Congress Party to talk about it in the court,” he added.

Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore on his part said it doesn’t make sense that the Congress is disrupting the Parliament because of a matter pending in the court.

“They believe if you keep the family above the Constitution, then the Parliament will start functioning,” he added.

Protests over ‘political vendetta’ continued in the Rajya Sabha for the second day today, with the Congress members forcing repeated adjournments of the House.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi alleged that the Congress members are obstructing the country’s developmental agenda by disrupting the proceedings and went on to suggest that the House should not be adjourned.

He said the House is unable to take up important bills including the Whistle Blowers Protection (Amendment) Bill, 2015, because of the obstructions by Congress.

He said the government is ready for discussion on any issue on the floor of the House. (ANI)
