Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner Dr. Janardhan Reddy visited Bholakpur of Musheerabad assembly constituency and directed to ensure immediate shifting of tanneries present in the area. Following a sudden inspection, he directed the municipal officials to take measures in this connection and ensure shifting of all 533 tanneries.
Dr. Janardhan Reddy told that issuance of business licenses to these tanneries was stopped in 2003-4 and they were directed to immediately vacate the area. But after the intervention of Human rights Commission, gradual shifting and rehabilitation were requested by allotting land at the outskirts. On this district collector Rangareddy had allocated 44.6 acre land in Keesera Mandal for plastic, iron and leather factories.
But the Gas Authority of India (GAIL) raised objection and it was stalled.
