GHMC floats novel idea to keep city garbage-free

In an effort to make Hyderabad city clean and green, the GHMC has a novel idea in open garbage points in the city to prevent dumping of garbage by the locals. The novel idea started on the occasion of Deepawali is to put “Rangoli” at open garbage points after decorating with colors. There are 1,116 open garbage points in the city.

GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy said awareness among the citizens would be created for making these points garbage-free by lighting lamps and distributing sweets. A plan has been evolved by identifying the vulnerable garbage points in the city where this novel idea would be implemented. The novel idea has created to some extent awareness among the people and they are coming forward to cooperate with GHMC keeping the city clean and garbage-free.

As part of the novel idea, the GHMC exhorted citizens, traders, petty vendors to put their garbage only in auto tippers, which collect garbage from every household. If anybody dumps garbage in the open grounds, the civic authorities would impose fines. Even after the authorities identify a violator, he or she will be felicitated so that a change can be brought in his/her heart about throwing garbage in open areas. (NSS)
