GHMC plans to make all vacant sites in city into playgrounds

Hyderabad: GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan has stated that they will provide basic infrastructure for sports by developing the vacant places as play grounds across the city.
Rammohan was inaugurating the GHMC prestigious summer coaching camps at Chadarghat Victory Play Grounds here on Monday. The GHMC Commissioner Dr B Janardhan Reddy was also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Rammohan said the GHMC has initiated steps to transform Hyderabad city into Sports City as there were already national and international level stadiums in the City. The GHMC would allocate more funds to develop the vacant places across the City as play grounds. He said the GHMC was contemplating to set up play grounds in the vacant places belonging to the private firms. He reminded that the GHMC has special identity across the nation in organizing summer coaching camps and the players, who started their sports career from summer coaching camps, emerged as national and international champs.
Speaking on the occasion, Janardhan Reddy said 2,065 national, international and senior coaches extended their services in the summer coaching camps and the children from six years to 16 were eligible for these camps. The camps will start at 6am and end at 8am every day. He said the GHMC was expecting that some 1.5 lakh children would participate in the camps. In Hyderabad City, there are 521 play grounds, seven swimming pools, 13 sports complexes, seven roller skating rings and five tennis courts. He said admission will be given to children with minimal fee.
The Mayor released Summer Coaching Camp-2017 issue on the occasion. He handed over mementos to senior coaches and Zonal Commissioner Harichandana. Local corporator Mamatha Gupta also spoke on the occasion. (NSS)
