GHMC Polls: 114 nominations rejected, scrutiny on for 23 wards

The nomination papers submitted by as many 114 candidates from 127 wards of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation have been rejected during scrutiny on Monday.

Speaking to media persons here, GHMC Election Authority Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy said that the process of scrutiny of nominations has been completed in 127 wards and 114 candidates were rejected due to invalid documents and other reasons. He said that the process was still on for 23 remaining wards and it would be completed by Tuesday. After rejected nominations, a total of 1689 candidates are in the fray from 127 wards.

Most of the cases have been rejected because they were not the voters in the GHMC list, had more than two children or for other reasons. After the withdrawal of the nominations, recognized political parties, registered parties, independents will be placed as per the alphabetical order of Telugu in the ballot paper.

Stating that there was still time for the candidates to submit B-Forms, he said that the real picture on number of candidates for the GHMC elections would emerge only on January 21 after the end of deadline for withdrawal of candidature.

Dr. Janardhan Reddy also informed that random demonstration of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) would be conducted in all 150 wards on January 22. Besides all contesting candidates and their Election Agents, the demonstrations will be monitored by three officials from other districts and different departments. He also said that the Voters Slips given by the GHMC authorities would be valid. However, he clarified that the Voters’ Slip was meant only for proper guidance of voters on locating their polling stations. (INN)
