GHMC will develop all city lakes: Mayor

GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan on Monday said that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation would develop all lakes in the city in a phase manner.

Speaking to media persons after inspecting the lakes in Kapra Circle, the Mayor said there were 168 lakes in the GHMC limits and all of them would be developed as picnic spots while providing required infrastructure. So far, the GHMC has put up proposals for 34 lakes and the works are also in progress which include walking track, gardening, fountain, seating arrangements, lighting, drains etc.,

The GHMC Mayor directed the officials to take up measures to prevent inflow of drainage water into the lakes. He said that the Cherlaplly lake, having an area of 58 acres, was getting polluted due to dumping of industrial waste. He asked the officials to provide separate sewerage treatment plant to the industrial units in the area to prevent pollution of Cherlapally lake, which falls in his ward. He also directed the officials to clear encroachments from the lake and other nalas.

Rammohan also directed the officials to provide drinking water to the residents of Cherlapally. Further, he said graveyards would be constructed on 9 acres of lands. Of this, 5 acres will be provided to Hindus, 2 acres for Muslims and another 2 acres for Christians.

GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy, Zonal Commissioner (East) C.N Raghu Prasad, Chief Engineers Imtiyaz Ahmed and Suresh, Deputy Commissioner Saroja, Executive Engineer Shekar Reddy and other senior officials were also present in the visit. (INN)
