Good response to Urdu fete

Jagtial: The Urdu Mela, literary festival, organised by Tahreek Urdu Telangana(TUT) to mark the birth anniversary of famous Urdu poet Muhammad Iqbad (writer of Sare Jahan Se Accha..) at Ruby Function Hall in Jagtial on Wednesday got good response from students and Urdu lovers.Jagtial Municipal Chairperson T Vijaya Lakshmi inaugurated the literary festival in the presence of TUT founder-president Khan Zia and Muslim Community president Riyaz Uddin.

Students from across the district displayed their exhibits highlighting various aspects of Urdu culture and literature. Paintings and photographs of classical Urdu poets like Iqbal, Galib and their literary work and Urdu calligraphy, old and new Urdu magazines, newspapers, coins with Urdu writings, traditional costumes and bedari philigiri were also presented by students.


A mock mushaira (poetry session) of Quli Qutubshah court was staged by the students that drew massive response from the audience. Poets and students read out Urdu couplets. Municipal Chairperson Vijaya Lakshmi distributed prizes to the winners of literary completions under various categories.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms Vijaya Lakshmi said Urdu played a vital role during the independence struggle and unified the people of the country against the British rule. TUT president Khan Zia and others also spoke.
