Google expands hiring for its self-driving project

New Delhi: Alphabet Inc, the American multinational conglomerate created in 2015 as the parent company of Google, is advertising several jobs on its website with a special focus on manufacturing expertise for its self-driving project.

Thirty-six jobs related to the Google X car project were listed, including engineers working on motion control, displays, robotics and sensors as well as managers charged with operations, materials and marketing, Reuters reported.

Meanwhile, internet giant Google declined to comment on the development.

In a major boosts to Google, its self-driving car was approved by the US vehicle safety regulators recently which states that the computer could be considered the driver under federal law.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) told Google in a letter approving autonomous vehicles on the roads.

“NHTSA will interpret ‘driver’ in the context of Google’s described motor vehicle design as referring to the (self-driving system), and not to any of the vehicle occupants,” NHTSA’s letter said.

Major automakers and technology companies such as Google are racing to develop and sell vehicles that can drive themselves. (ANI)
