Google to skip 2016 U.S. airwaves auction

New Delhi : Internet giant Google has confirmed that it would not participate in the U.S. Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) upcoming auction of broadcast airwaves.

“Like all those interested in improved connectivity and equitable access, we’ll be following the upcoming spectrum auction closely. That said, we have not filed to participate,” the Google spokeswoman said.

Meanwhile, Wireless providers such as Verizon Communications Inc (VZ.N), AT&T Inc (T.N) and T-Mobile and cable operator Comcast Corp (CMCSA.O) have confirmed their participation in the auction, Reuters reported.

Google had last participated in a FCC auction in 2008 but did not buy any airwaves.

The auction this year will begin on March 29. (ANI)
