Govt blocked data on Muslims recruitment in police force

New Delhi: In yet another attempt to sacrifice transparency. The Centre has decided to stop making public information about Muslims recruited in the police force, according to a report published in ‘The Indian Express’ on Monday.

The Union Home Ministry led by Rajnath Singh has already taken the decision.

Until now, the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) used to provide information regarding the Muslims serving in the police force separately.

The data on Muslims was first provided in 1999 during Atal Bihari Vajpayee led government.

According to a 2013 NCRB report, the police force accounted for 1.08 lakh Muslim cops.

The records say that their presence in the police force has been falling. In 2007 the minority community represented 7.55 percent of the force and in 2012 it was 6.55 percent.

The newspaper quoted NCRB Director General Archana Ramasundaram saying that the decision to drop this information was part of the “proforma revision” of NCRB publications.
