New Delhi: Talking about the government’s strategy in the upcoming Budget Session, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs M. Venkaiah Naidu on Monday said that the Centre needs to highlight its ‘pro-poor, pro-weaker section, pro-farmer initiatives’ taken up by the government from time to time.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders earlier today met at Naidu’s residence here to discuss the strategy for the upcoming Punjab Assembly polls in 2017 and also about the Budget Session.

Speaking after the meeting, Naidu said that it was a part of the periodical meetings of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies and added that it was decided that they should highlight the pro-poor, pro-weaker section, pro-farmer initiatives taken up by the government from time to time.

“We have discussed general issues and the issues that are likely to come up in the Budget session of the Parliament, the need to have better coordination in the Parliament and to have a common strategy on larger issues that are likely to be taken for the Budget Session,” Naidu said.

The Budget Session of the Parliament will begin on February 23.

While the first session will continue till March 16, the second session will take place from April 25 to May 13.

The government is keen to push its legislative agenda, thwarted in the last two sessions, while the Opposition is all geared up to target the ruling dispensation on a host of issues, including the suicide of PhD scholar Rohith Vemula and imposition of President’s Rule in Arunachal Pradesh.
