Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari today expressed serious concern over the society’s negligence towards children from 6 to 14 years age group comprising child labour, street-children and physically challenged. “Educational institutions, Research centers should work together to route out social stigma of neglecting these classes and guide them to lead a better life. The State Government will extend all support to those involved in social work”, he said while participating as a chief guest in Golden Jubilee celebrations of Road Mistry Social Work College here.
Speaking on the occasion, Srihari expressed grief that these three categories are not getting due place and respect. It is the duty of the government and society to take care of them he said adding that there are 67,000 physically challenged in the state as per a recent house hold survey.
Stating that the government is ready to extend a helping hand Srihari called upon the social work institutions to recommend measures to route out the problem and protect these children and also those who are being neglected. There are child labourer working in various places including cotton farms, hotels and elsewhere. Though is GHMC is shifting street children to rehabilitation centers and providing shelter and more such children from other states are coming in to our state he noted. Social work centers and institutions on the issue have more work to do to address the problem.
Sriahari praised Saibaba Goud and his wife running Devanar Foundation for Blind for providing education from first class to Intermediate using latest technology. The Deputy Chief Minister said that Road Mistry College holding 9thposition at national level in social work should reach first position he hoped. He also extended all support for helping these negligence categories who should lead a respectful live. The government has many projects in this regard and the institutions can make use of them to serve he added. (NSS)
