Graft trial: BNP leader Khaleda Zia may appear before court tomorrow

Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia is expected to appear before court tomorrow in connection to two graft cases against her.

Sanaullah Mia, Zia’s counsel, said that there is a scheduled hearing for Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases tomorrow, adding that the BNP leader is ‘respectful’ towards law and is likely to appear before the court, reported The Daily Star.

According to the charge sheet of the Zia Orphanage case, Khaleda, along with four others, embezzled 2.1 crore Bangladeshi takas by forming a charity that existed only on paper.

The two cases have been filed by Bangladesh’s Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).

Zia has regularly abstained from attending court proceedings. She has refrained from appearing before the court on 56 out of 63 dates for hearing in the two cases. (ANI)
