Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari today said that Haritha Rallies by the school children will be conducted as part of “Green Day” across the state on July 15.
Stating that the government plans to introduce a subject on environment protection in the schools, he said that elocution, Essay and other competitions on the Harithaharam scheme will be conducted for the children and the winners will be presented with awards on August 15, he said.
Addressing the media at Secretariat here Srihari said that about 30000 schools are being involved in the Haritha Rallies and children will participate in the plantation drive after the rallies at selected places. The Schools were asked to plant 50 lakhs of saplings on the day while the students will actively participate in the green expansion program. The school managements were directed to take up the massive plantation drive as part of the green day. The active involvement of the students and people will make the green drive a huge success, he hoped.
The students were given the responsibility to plant the saplings and protect them through required measures, Srihari said. Referring to drugs cases at the schools and colleges that rattled the state and put the parents into quandary, the deputy chief minister said that the culprits will not be spared. The Government he said will punish those involved seriously in the drugs supply at any level and inquiry bodies are on the job to unfold the facts. (NSS)
