Five killed as bus overturns in Gujarat

Junagadh (Gujarat): At least five were killed after a school bus overturned in Junagadh district of Gujarat on Thursday.

Around 70 students, along with the teachers of a primary school, were returning from Somnath Temple to Surat city in a double-decker bus when the accident happened at around 8.30 a.m.

Out of the five deceased, three were school children. Around 20 to 30 children received injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

District collector of Junagadh, Alok Kumar Pandey, said two teachers were also killed.

“The primary reason of the accident is the tyre burst of the bus, it climbed onto the divider and overturned. Around 25 people have received injuries. They were standing on the side. Five died in the accident,” said Pandey.

Around 15 children are in critical condition as some of them have lost their legs or hands in the tragedy.

Police also reached the spot and helped in taking out the bodies that were stuck under the bus. The bus driver fled the spot after it hit the divider. Investigation is on in the matter.
