Amid the raging row over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s educational qualification, the Gujarat University today shared details of his MA degree saying he scored 62.3 per cent as an external student of the varsity.
However, in its haste to silence Modi’s critics and create positive impression about him, the authorities committed several blunders.
Interestingly the leaked documents have brought to the fore a new date of birth of the prime minister. Modi’s official date of birth on his official website is 17 September 1950. But, according to the document of Gujarat University carried by the media, Modi was born on 29 August 1949.
Many activists, who have been relentlessly pursuing information on Modi’s educational qualification, have expressed suspicion of manipulation by the university.
The University also cannot provide any information about Modi’s graduation beyond the fact that Prime Minister passed pre-science equivalent to Class XII from MN Science College, Visnagar. The official website of Prime Minister claimed that he obtained BA from Delhi University in 1978.
Meanwhile the Prime Minister’s Office has consistently refused to furnish details of PM’s educational qualifications demanded under RTIs so far.
Modi also got engaged at age of 13 with Jashodaben, but followed admission like Anandiben from school to college and, at 17, he got into pre-science (as per TOI and Mirror Story) in 1967 in MN College Visnagar when Anandiben was doing Msc Chemistry.
Many doubts exist on this story also as he says he did his degree from Gujarat University but MN College is not affiliated to Gujarat University. There are others who say that he left school in grade 8.
Gujarat Education Minister Bhupendra Sinh Chudasma, meanwhile has said that all requisite records of the prime minister’s degrees will made available on request.
But acccording to Roshan Shah, an activist many RTIs have been filed asking for information on Modi’s degrees in 2013, but it was turned down.
