Harish Rao seeks Central funds for irrigation projects

Irrigation Minister T. Harisha Rao has urged the Central Government to include six irrigation projects of Telangana State into the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKYS).

Speaking to media persons after attending Water Resources Coordination Committee meeting in New Delhi on Sunday, Harish Rao informed that the Centre has been asked to provide permissions and funds to complete the irrigation projects in the State. He said that the Union Ministers and officials have been informed about the difficulties being faced by the Telangana in execution of irrigation projects in the State.

Harish Rao informed that the Committee has decided to expedite the irrigation projects being constructed under PMKYS. He said that the Centre would provide 60% funding to projects being constructed in Tribal and Agency areas. He said all States have been asked to submit reports by March 28.

He said eight projects from Telangana have been included in PMKYS scheme. He said that the Committee’s next meeting would be held in Jodhpur on 9th and 10th April. (INN)
