New Delhi: Union Minister for food processing industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Wednesday urged Indian women to rise against the social evils like dowry, domestic violence, female infanticide by taking an oath on the March 8, the International Womens’ Day.

“On International Womens’ day every women should take an oath to get rid of these issues (dowry, domestic violence, female infanticide) which hampers the growth of women. These are the elements which we need to remove from our system and as a women we need to take lead into that,” Badal told ANI in an exclusive interview here.

“For instance if a girl is getting married then parents should ensure that it’s happening without giving dowry. And if this is followed then in no time we can change the mindset of the country,” she added.

Asserting that a woman’s life is full of challenges, Badal asked them to pay more attention towards their well being.

“An Indian woman dons many hats at the same time. She juggles her day between being a homemaker, corporate leader, mother, daughter and many more such roles. A woman’s life is full of challenges and in the midst of fulfilling responsibilities she often tends to ignore her own wellbeing. Hence, it is time for women to realize that their own wellness was also of importance and invest in it,” she said, while addressing a wellness conference on the theme ‘Wellness Rules – A Proactive Family Well-being Conclave’ organized by FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO), Young FICCI Ladies Organisation (YFLO) in association with Sleepwell Foundation to celebrate the International Women’s Day.

Highlighting her work in the area of upliftment of women in the society, Badal further urged the privileged women of the society to come forth and take up initiatives to promote and encourage wellness amongst their less fortunate counterparts. (ANI)
