HC adjourns Roja’s case to Thursday

Hyderabad: In the wake of Supreme Court directive, the Hyderabad High Court, which took up YSRCP MLA R K Roja’s suspension case, posted it to Thursday after hearing both sides. The court is expected to deliver its verdict on the same day.
According to legal luminaries, the Speaker’s decision is final as per the Constitution and it cannot be challenged. It may be said the AP Assembly suspended YSRCP MLA Roja for one year for not complying with norms of the House and kept on belittling the chair and leader of the House.
Roja moved the apex court, which directed the High Court to deal with the case. Advocate Indira Jai Singh of Roja argued that the Assembly can only suspend her for the single session and not for one year. Even Roja’s name was not mentioned during suspension time, the advocate informed the court seeking revival.
AP additional advocate-general D Srinivas informed the court that the YSRCP legislator was suspended for belittling the Speaker and the entire House. Speaker has powers to suspend its members for failing to comply with House procedures and norms, he argued. (NSS)
