HC raps AP Govt over whereabouts of Maoist leader RK

Hyderabad High Court on Monday took a serious note of the mystery surrounding the whereabouts of top Maoist leader Ramakrishna and asked the Andhra Pradesh Government to ensure that no physical harm was done to the allegedly missing Maoist leader.

The High Court was hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by Rama Krishna’s wife pleading for the production of her missing husband before the High Court whom she felt was in the custody of the AP police. The court observed that any civilian, even if he was a Maoist, deserves to be protected.

Earlier this week, RK is said to have been involved in the gun-battle with the security forces on the Andhra-Odisha Border in which 24 Maoists were killed.

Civil Liberties leaders have alleged that the police have captured RK and they fear harm to his life. After hearing the arguments of the counsel for the petitioner, the Court wanted to know whether RK was in the police custody. The State Government Counsel said that he was not aware of the whereabouts of RK. The court then directed him to give the same in writing and posted the case for further hearing to Thursday. (INN)
