HCU turns tense on Rohith’s first death anniversary

Tension prevailed at Hyderabad Central University (HCU) when students in large numbers came to pay tributes to late Vemula Rohith, who committed suicide on January 17, 2016, on the occasion of his first death anniversary.

The students raised slogans ‘Do Justice to Rohit Family’. On Tuesday, the students went in a rally from the hostels to main gate and tried to come out of the university premises. However, the police obstructed them leading to tense atmosphere.

On the other hand, the police obstructed the activists of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and various student unions at the main gate when they tried to enter the university premises to participate in the Rohit death anniversary program. students from inside and AAP activists from outside staged protests leading to tense situation. Jostling took place between the students and police for a while.

Additional police force rushed to the university to bring the situation under control. The students raised slogans saying ‘police go back’’. The students announced that they will organize Rohit’s death anniversary as announced earlier. The students, professors and leaders from various people’s unions reached to the university. But the police obstructed the students saying the students have no permission to conduct any meeting.
