Bhubaneswar: Heat wave conditions continued in Odisha on Sunday even as a low pressure has been formed over Bay of Bengal that would bring rainfall to the state, a met department official said.
“There is a low pressure area in the south-west Bay of Bengal, which has already become well marked. It will become a depression and move towards Tamil Nadu coast by tonight (Saunday night). The state will experience rainfall under the impact of the low pressure,” said Mamata Yadav, Bhubaneswar met department director in-charge.
A total of 12 places in the state recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius out of which six had it above 42 degrees. The highest – 45 degrees – was recorded at Sundargarh followed by Talcher at 44.6 degrees and Titilagarh at 44.
Meanwhile, the state government said it has received death of 181 people allegedly due to sunstroke but only 18 deaths due to sunstroke has been confirmed after enquiry.
“In 77 cases out of total 181 reports of alleged death due to sunstroke received from different sources, the death is found to have occurred due to other reasons,” said an official of special relief commissioner’s office.
