Hewitt feels dropped Kyrgios is Australia’s `shining light`

Melbourne: Lleyton Hewitt has backed dropped tennis player Nick Kyrgios, saying he is `one of the massive shining lights` for Australia despite his absence from this weekend’s Davis Cup showdown with Great Britain.

Kyrgios was omitted from the Cup squad after being involved in endless controversy for months.

Thirty-four-year-old Hewitt described Kyrgios as a ‘big-match player’, adding that he is just few year away from playing his best consistent tennis, news.com.au reported.

Hewitt further said that the 20-year-old is a great guy, hoping that he would get better with time.

Reacting to his exclusion, Australian captain Wally Masur said that they did what was best for the team as well as for Kyrgios, adding that he might get number of opportunities during the year.

Meanwhile, Kyrgios wrote on Twitter that he had returned to the ATP Tour at the Malaysian Open starting from September 28.

Earlier, the Australian bad boy was handed a suspended ban and a fine by the ATP Tour for his ‘insulting remark’ against Stan Wawrinka during their Rogers Cup match at Montreal.

Davis Cup will kick start from September 18 at Glasgow. (ANI)
