High Court hurl Kerala govt over permission for fireworks at Kollam temple

As the firework display at the Puttingal temple which resulted in a fire accident on Sunday. The Kerala high court slammed the Oommen Chandy government. A total of seven officer bearers from Puttingal Devi temple surrendered before the Kerala Crime Branch on Tuesday.

The HC was hearing a plea for a ban on bursting firecrackers and displaying fireworks during temple functions. The court said.“How did fireworks happen without permission?” after the government asserted that no permission was given for bursting of firecrackers inside the temple premises.

The fireworks show is part of the annual festival. The incident took place at the 500-year-old Devi Temple at Puttingal of Paravur municipality in Kollam, located around 70 km from the state capital. The toll is likely to go up as at least two dozen victims are critically injured.

Despite the disapproval, by the district administration for the fireworks display.The temple authorities had gone ahead with the show.
