Highest communal incidents in UP this year, 16 died and 150 injured in 60 communal clashes

New Delhi: In 2017 so far, 296 incidents of communal violence occurred in which 44 persons died. This data was communicated to Parliament by Home Ministry.

According to the news published in Indian Express, in the country, there were 703 communal violence incidents in 2016 in which 86 persons died whereas, in 2015, 751 incidents were reported in which 97 persons died.

In the present year, UP witnessed the highest number of communal violence in India. Karnataka, MP, Rajasthan and West Bengal are also on the top of the list of such incidents.

There were 60 incidents in UP in which 16 persons were killed and more than 150 were injured.

West Bengal witnessed 26 incidents of communal violence in which 3 deaths occurred till May this year whereas, in 2016, 32 incidents had taken place killing 4 persons.

As per the statement made by Mr. Kiren Rijiju, MoS (Home) in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, the responsibility of dealing with communal tension and law and order rests with State Governments. He further said that Central Govt. has already communicated guidelines to all the States and UTs to maintain communal harmony.
