In ‘hire and fire’ era, this merchant announces big bonanza for employees

New Delhi: A diamond businessman in Gujarat’s Surat gifted scooties to his 125 employees as company is doing well despite a sluggish economy.

Vekaria’s generosity is similar to Savjibhai Dholakia’s, who, last year, gifted his employees cars and houses as a bonus.

It may be mentioned that last year, as a Diwali bonus, Savji Dholakia choose 1,665 people who were gifted 1,260 cars, 400 flats and gold jewellery.

Now, Laxmidas Vekaria gifted his 125 employees with the two-wheelers as annual increment. The scooters given to the employees includes the Honda Activa 4G.

This move by diamond merchant is surprising at a time when companies are following ‘hire and fire’ policy and sacking employees. On Thursday itself, Bengaluru-based IT giant, Wipro decided to sack 600 employees post performance appraisal.
