Honda Cars India to recall 90,210 units of City, Mobilio

New Delhi :Japanese auto major Honda will recall 90,210 units of its sedan City and multi-purpose vehicle Mobilio in India manufactured between December 2013 to July 2015 to replace fuel return pipe. The recall will affect only the diesel variants of the two models.

The company’s Indian arm, Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) said it will recall 64,428 units of diesel variants of Honda City manufactured from December 2013 to July 2015 and 25,782 units of diesel variants of Honda Mobilio manufactured from June 2014 to July 2015 to voluntarily replace the fuel return pipe of these vehicles.

“There is a possibility that in some of these cars, the fuel return pipe may come out, resulting in fuel leakage and leading to engine stoppage,” HCIL said in a statement.

The fuel return pipe and related parts will be replaced free of cost at HCIL dealerships across India from December 19 2015 in a phased manner and the owners will be contacted individually, it added.

In September, HCIL had announced recall of around 2.24 lakh units of its premium sports utility vehicles—CR-V, sedans Civic, City and hatchback Jazz, manufactured between 2003 and 2012 to replace faulty airbag inflators.

Recently, German auto major Volkswagen Group had announced a recall of 3,23,700 units across its three brands — Audi, Skoda and Volkswagen—in India in relation to the emission test cheating scandal. It was the largest recall of vehicles in India.

Ever since auto industry body SIAM had introduced the voluntary recall policy for safety related issues, automobile manufacturers have been recalling vehicles.

Till now, over 17.39 lakh vehicles have been recalled by various manufacturers in India so far.
