UP horror: Murder, gangrape of 4 women, loot at Bulandshahr highway

GREATER NOIDA: Armed miscreants looted a family, killed one of its members and molested women near Jewar in Uttar Pradesh early on Thursday morning, police said.

The incident occurred some 60 km from here on the Jewar-Bulandshahr highway around 1.30 a.m. when eight members, including four women, of a Greater Noida-based family was headed to Bulandshahr to visit an ailing relative in a hospital there.

The victims said, as many as six miscreants forced them to stop the car by shooting at its tyres. They the criminals held the family (four men and four women) hostage and allegedly molested and raped the women present.

On resisting, the criminals also shot a person dead after he raised objection against the crime. The deceased has been identified as Shakeel Qraishi.

They attacked the occupants and took away with jewellery 44,000 in cash.

“We are hunting down the criminals. No one has been arrested so far. The statements of the family members have been recorded,” a senior police official told IANS.

Police said the incident took place near Sabota village in Jewar around 2 am when the eight people were going to visit a relative undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bulandshahr in western Uttar Pradesh. | Source: PTI

According to the senior officials of Uttar Pradesh Police, the incident occurred on the highway, about two kilometres from Jewar towards Bulandshahr.

In a similar incident, in July last year at the National Highway passing through Bulandshahr, a car was stopped by criminals and dragged a 13-year-old girl and her mother out and raped them in a nearby field.

The girl, along with her family, was going to a funeral late on July 29, when armed men stopped their car, tied and beat up the men and gang-raped the girl and her 35-year-old mother for almost three hours.

Several such crimes, including murders and gangrapes, have been reported in the past on the same route and the specific location around Jewar in Gautam Buddh Nagar district, and around Bulandshahr.
