Hyderabad: 5-year-old girl critical after being hit by car driven by ‘drunk’ techie

Hyderabad: A 5-year-old girl was seriously injured and her mother suffered fractures when a software engineer driving a car allegedly in an inebriated state hit them while they were crossing a road at Pedda Amberpet here, police said on.

The engineer and two other occupants of the car were arrested later.

B N Venkat Ramana, who was driving the car along with the two occupants allegedly in an inebriated state, had fled after hitting Sanjana and her mother S V Sridevi at around 11 PM on October 2.

During course of investigation, the trio were arrested last night from here and produced before a court today, Hayathnagar Police Station Sub-Inspector G Manmadha Kumar said.

“The girl who had suffered critical injuries in the incident is undergoing treatment at a private hospital along with her mother who suffered fractures,” the SI said.

Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s father S V Sivananda, a case was registered under sections 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of IPC and other relevant provisions of MV Act.

A probe is underway.
