Hyderabad: Cattle Traders demand Police protection ahead of Bakri Eid

Hyderabad: Since the Centre’s ban on cattle slaughter, cattle traders throughout the nation are raising their voices, for they are the ones suffering due to the imposed ban.

The city cattle traders have approached the Hyderabad City Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy ahead of Bakri Eid, asking the City Police to provide them police protection against cow vigilantes who are threatening with dire consequences along with creating unnecessary hassles on the pretext of imposed ban.

A joint meeting was held by the City Police with city cattle traders, Muslim scholars, Government officials on Friday which was headed by the Hyderabad Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy.
The cattle traders stated that they are troubled over “unnecessary restrictions” since the imposed cattle ban.

Since the ban, Police in various city outskirts like Narsingi, Shamshabad, Hayathnagar, Bhongir, Ibrahimpatnam and Uppal has been registering discretionary cases for “cruelty against animals”.
Speaking on the matter, Jamiat ul Quresh Secretary Fareeduddin Qureshi said, “Our cattle are also confiscated though we are not bringing in any cows into the city for sacrifice or slaughter out of respect to other communities”.

Advising the cattle traders to follow the rules for the cattle trade, the Commissioner assured the community to take the matter to higher authorities and work out for a solution on the issue.
To ensure peaceful Vinayak Chaturthi, Commissioner said around 25,000 Police personnel will be deployed on the immersion day.

The city Police also organized meeting with the Ganesh Utsav Committee and Ganesh pandal organizers.

Commissioner Reddy said a separate control room will be opened at the Sardar Mahal GHMC office for the organizers to address their grievances.
