Hyderabad declared cheap liquor-free city: Minister

Hyderabad: On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, Telangana Government has declared Hyderabad as Cheap Liquor-free city.
Excise & Prohibition Minister T. Padma Rao Goud said the State government will provide rehabilitation and financial assistance to those who relied on producing cheap liquor in Dhoolpet and other areas in the city. He made this announcement after Collector Rahul Bojja declaring Hyderabad free from production and consumption of cheap liquor which is unsafe for health.
The minister was speaking at a program attended by Excise Commissioner Chandravadan, City Police Commissioner Mahender Reddy and others. The Collector said they have made efforts for almost one year to make Dhoolpet 95 per cent free from production of cheap liquor which is spurious and unsafe for consumption.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister assured to offer all support for providing alternative employment to the families relied on cheap liquor production. Now the time is for the officials to ensure that the cheap liquor problem will not recur in the city, he added. (NSS)
