Hyderabad horror: Cruel mother sets daughter afire for spilling flour

Hyderabad: In an appalling incident, which occurred in Shadnagar on Friday night, a woman set her 10-year-old daughter ablaze for spilling the flour. Swarupa W/O Dubba Chennaiah is the resident of Chintagudem of Farooq Nagar mandal in Ranga Reddy district. Her daughter Dubba Radhika had spilled flour on the ground while carrying the aata (flour) from the shop for making chapatis.

According to Shadnagar sub-inspector M. Dasu, Swarupa got angry over the fault and beat her up. Not satisfied, she dragged the girl into the house, took a bottle of kerosene and poured it on her. She took burning firewood from a choolha, set the girl ablaze and left her on the floor. Neighbours rushed the girl to the hospital. She is undergoing treatment at Osmania Hospital. She has suffered more than 70 per cent burns is said to be in critical condition. Radhika is the eldest of the three children.

Police registered an attempt-to-murder case against the mother.

According to neighbours family is in acute financial crisis and Swarupa had attempted suicide some years ago by consuming pesticide, since then she went into depression.
