If the pilot project introduced by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) turns out to be successful the city roads will get white topping to cement concrete roads using fully mechanised state-of-the-art technology.
The project is being tested on a one kilometre stretch at Road number 10, Banjara Hills (the road starting from City Center mall to Zohranagar Junction). GHMC plans to use white-popping roads on several other stretches in the city and depending on the success of this project.
Though the expenses are more compared to bitumen (BT) roads but it will be worth spending, as the roads will have a life span of 30 years compared to one to two years of roads built with asphalt. Engineers from Ultra Tech Cement claim “We are using a one-of-its kind technology. Once this road is finished, it will remain intact for 30 years. The current roads are built with asphalt and can easily be disintegrated after a period of time. These roads only have a life-span of about one to two years. This road is made with concrete and is much more resistant to rain and oil-spillage. There will not be any potholes and will drastically reduce accidents,” “Unlike the regular tar roads, these roads will reflect light and will be 30 per cent brighter at night and can save electricity and energy. This (white road) is much cooler than asphalt and will reduce load on air-conditioning to the tune of five to eight per cent.” There is lesser scope for motorists to skid and it is cooler than asphalt road, will reduce load of air-conditioning to the tune of 5 to 8 per cent at roadside houses.
