Hyderabad: Money lenders beat woman to death

Hyderabad: Five women money lenders beat up a 45-year-old housewife who failed to pay interest for a loan she had taken from them. The victim died on Saturday in Sanathnagar. A case has been registered against the accused women.

As reported by Deccan Chronicle Mumtaz’s husband Sheikh Meera said that two years ago Mumtaz had borrowed Rs 18,000 from one Shukla, a financier, at an interest rate of 10 per cent, to help her younger brother Sohail. She stood surety on Sohail’s behalf. Till a few months ago Sohail used to pay interest regularly. But he could not pay in the last two months.

On April 20, Salki and Sukla and three women came to Mumtaz’s house and beat her up leaving her seriously injured. Mumtaz was rushed to state-run Osmania Hospital, where she died on Saturday while undergoing treatment.

Mumtaz’s husband Sheikh Meera lodged a complaint with the police, based on which police registered a murder case against Shukla, Salki and the three women.

Mumtaz’s body was handed over to the family after post-mortem. Manhunt has been launched to nab the women who are absconding.
