A newborn boy wrapped in a cloth found abandoned near a tunnel on roadside in Nalgonda district on Sunday morning.
Police said on Sunday morning the public passing by the tunnel connecting Mangalpally and Tatikal villages saw the baby in an open area near Narasimha Gudem hamlet in Mangalpally village. They immediately alerted the sarpanch who called the police.
The baby has been shifted to Shishu Vihar. As the spot is located in a remote area, police is unable to get any eyewitnesses.
Based on a complaint from health workers, police registered a case under Section 317 (Abandonment of child under 12 years).
Police suspects the child could have been born due to an extramarital affair or the baby’s parents may not want the child.
